Val d’Isère – Skiing breaks for all the family

If you are looking for great family ski holidays then Val d’Isère is a fabulous destination with a lovely town alongside.  The slopes of Val d’Isère belong to 300km of Espace Killy which is also shared by the resort of Tignes.  Both resorts seamlessly link into each other.  There are slopes that go up to heights of 3300m in the Val d’Isère resort on the Glacier de Pissaillas.  You can reach heights of 3,455m on the glacier of Grand Motte in Tignes.  There are great ski runs for younger family members on the latter with reasonably easy downward ski runs.

You’ll find that although there are challenges for those who seek them out, the unending pistes appeal directly to those who are looking for family friendly ski breaks.

Perfect for beginners

For children there are ski schools that will escort children around the mountains showing them the best of the skiing areas.  Parents can ski around to their heart’s content and still not manage to ski a run twice over during the holiday.  Accommodation is nearby within a bus ride from the slopes and it’s a simple journey back and to.

Skiing holidays start in November and the season lasts into late April.  You can get flights into Geneva from several UK airports with flights from London taking just one and a half hours.  Chambery is closer than Geneva but flights are less flexible.

The child-friendly resort for ski breaks

Val d’Isère is a fun and bustling place to stay and there are plenty of child-friendly hotels, apartments and chalets to choose from.  You can get some top end accommodation but for families seeking skiing holidays on a budget you’ll find a great choice of reasonably priced places to stay.

Skiing breaks can be started at either end of Val d’Isère.  In the town centre there is a nursery area, perfect for young tots to learn.  Children can then progress onto the La Daille area which is 1.5km outside of the town and nestled into a large apartment complex making it ideal for families.

You can reach the peak of Bellvarde by taking the underground funicular called the Funival.  You’ll find a steep but comfy red ski run which weaves nicely back down to the bottom.  There are chair lifts up to some easy runs or you can simply saunter over to Tignes where you’ll find some easy slopes for those on their first ski holiday.

At The Co-operative Travel we have a wide selection of skiing holidays to choose from and will ensure you get the best deal for your family.
