Ski breaks in Mayrhofen

When it comes to ski holidays the resort of Mayrhofen has double the benefits with a pretty, well catered for ski village which has held onto its quaint chalet style look with the added advantage of a location in the stunning Ziller Valley giving you easy access to Innsbruck.

Mayrhofen has long been a popular destination for ski breaks but also provides activities such as summer climbing, hiking and other mountain sports.  The resort became popular for skiing enthusiasts back in 50s and although Mayrhofen has relatively low altitude, snow coverage is still good as the lift reach slopes at some great heights guaranteeing extensive snowmaking when the cold season sets in.

The ski slopes are ready for action from mid December to mid April and there are great skiing amenities to ensure skiing breaks offer the highest quality ski experience.

The best of both worlds on these ski breaks

The ski area at Mayrhofen has two extremes.  Firstly the resort sits at one of the lowest altitudes of the resorts in the Alps however shrewd investment in hi-tech and high capacity chair lifts with an excellent infrastructure ensures that skiers can indulge in the top class descent of the Tux glacier which is 2370 metres and very snow-sure.  This run is one of the few that tries to stay open 365 days per year as long as the weather allows it.

To get you and the family from A to B invest in the full Zillertaler Superskipass which will ensure you can travel around the chairlift-linked Ziller Valley to your heart’s content.  There are about 12 ski areas which will keep even the most experienced skier occupied for the full ski break.

If all that all sounds too overwhelming and you want a more sedate experience then there are skiing and boarding opportunities at the local Penken and Ahorn mountains.  There are wide and gentle runs for families with trails of 5.5km.  For a steeper slope you can tackle the Harakiri with its incline of 78 per cent.  Freestyle skiers and boarders will enjoy the Vans Penken Park.

Away from the slopes

On every skiing holiday, you may want to escape the slopes at some point and here you can visit the Adventure Pool in the town with its wonderful spa and great slides.  You’ll also find bowling facilities, a games room and a cinema plus tennis and squash courts.

Other outdoor pursuits include ice skating, ballooning, sleigh rides, paragliding, toboggan runs, horse riding, tubing and winter hiking.
