Set amidst beautiful scenery on the banks of Ustedalen Fjord, Geilo lies at the heart of Norway¿s 'Winterland' region, with ski areas on both sides of the valley. With an excellent reputation as a family resort, this friendly and charming village has been welcoming international visitors since 1890. Geilo remains completely unspoilt, with its traditional Norwegian character very much intact.
A highly recommended family choice, with reliable snow, an excellent English-speaking ski school and specially designed beginners areas in which to gain your confidence.
With its efficient lift system spreading skiers out across four main mountain faces, queuing is virtually unheard of in Geilo, so you can ski non-stop on the excellent value lift-pass. The Vestlia area offers all grades of pistes making it ideal for mixed ability groups or families.
Geilo's five black runs include a couple of testing mogul runs, but the resort does not claim to cater for aggressive expert skiers. For good skiers keen to try a new challenge, Per Bye and Veslia Ski schools offer instruction in the graceful art of Telemark skiing.
Geilo is well worth checking out especially if you are into freestyle. It has a 160m pipe and two snowboard parks which have a full quiver of hits, spines, rails, kickers and quarter pipe.
