La Plagne Ski Resort

Set high in the magnificent Savoie French Alps, dominated by the mighty Mont Blanc, La Plagne is one of the most famous and exciting high altitude ski areas in the world. Linked to Les Arcs by the new Vanoise Express lift (from Christmas 2003), the new "Paradiski" area offers 425kms of pistes. One of the first purpose-built resorts in France, La Plagne comprises ten ski centres, each virtually self-contained with shops, restaurants, ski schools and children's village, with direct access onto the ski area. Each village is well-connected and gondolas and/or a bus service run between them. PLAGNE 1800 is the old mining village of La Plagne which has now been transformed into a village of beautiful chalets, all full of character and charm. PLAGNE CENTRE is the main and liveliest village of La Plagne with plenty of bars and restaurants. Just above Plagne Centre is the village of PLAGNE SOLEIL, full of low level buildings. Both villages have easy access to the ski slopes. PLAGNE VILLAGE is the newest village of La Plagne is a small and peaceful village with low level and attractive buildings and all buildings that are ski to the door. Plagne centre is easily accessible. PLAGNE BELLECOTE has quick and easy access to Belle Plagne and skiing. Bellecote also offers a great outdoor swimming pool and ice rink. BELLE PLAGNE is a charming, traffic free village with immediate access to the slopes and the point of departure for the gondola to the glacier. Beginners (4 out of 5)

Gentle nursery slopes and excellent English speaking ski instructors ensure that beginners will soon be enjoying the multitude of blue and green runs across the French Alps ski resort.

Intermediates (5 out of 5)

An absolute dream for the intermiediate skier. From exhilarating motorway skiing to quiet powder runs in the trees, La Plagne has it all! Try the long run down to Champagny from La Grande Rochette, take a break at a local restaurant for lunch, then spend the afternoon discovering the fabulous high altitude skiing on the Glacier de Bellecôte. With the new Paradiski lift to Les Arcs, the total ski area offers an unbelievable range of skiing, covering 425kms of piste.

Advanced (4 out of 5)

The more advanced skiers will relish this superb area. Try the glorious powder between the trees down to the village of Les Coches, or attempt the dramatic near vertical 2000m drop off the north face of the Bellecôte glacier, for some 15kms of skiing (with the aid of a mountain guide). Take advantage of the newly extended area and ski over to Les Arcs to try the breathtaking 7km black Aiguille Rouge run.

Snowboarding (4 out of 5)

La Plagne is a massive area sure to keep any type of rider grinning. Freeriders should head for the Col du Nant if you're up for a challenge and those looking to jump shouldn't feel left out with a France snowboarding park with a half pipe and other obstacles at Plagne Soleil. The terrain is also ideal for the snowboarding virgin.
