Less well known than other honeymoon locations in Thailand, Krabi is a charming, unspoilt peninsula overflowing with romance. Sheltered coves, magical islets, palm-fringed beaches, secluded mangrove forests and spectacular waterfalls all combine to make this one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations we at The Co-operative Travel could offer.
Honeymoon packages on Krabi range from family-run boutique resorts near Krabi town centre, to 5-star luxury in bungalow complexes sited in remote, private bays.
The Ko Lanta National Park is an area of outstanding beauty, and popular with couples booking beach weddings. Here, they can have their photographs taken with the surreal beauty of the forest-clad coral islands as a backdrop.
Best visited outside the monsoon months, nothing could be more romantic than a stroll along the deserted beaches, watching the sun setting over the little fishing boats of the Chao Le sea gypsies. Remember to bring plenty of memory cards for your camera – though a video cam is better.
Krabi has a level of quality which far belies the cost of staying there. Even the more modest honeymoon locations feature spas, air-conditioned rooms and evening entertainment – including discos and traditional Thai nights – and are situated in areas of incredible beauty.
The spa is a feature of honeymoon packages everywhere, offering the ultimate indulgence – a “his and hers” Thai massage, followed by a herbal sauna. You can partake of relaxing Yoga and Tai Chi classes; relax in your own pool or hot-tub. Invariably, the cuisine is of extremely high quality, often with a choice of several restaurants, serving everything from traditional Thai seafood dishes to standard European fare.
You may feel content to just laze on your private beach. However, the Andaman coast is renowned for its choice of sports activities. Most resorts offer snorkelling and scuba diving – the coral islands are one of the top diving locations in Asia.
The best way to appreciate Krabi is by getting physical – although this is best done in the cooler, drier months. Hire a kayak to paddle round the reefs and islands, try a spot of offshore rock-climbing, or take a guided trek around the spectacular forests and hot springs of the national park.
There are many beautiful temples to explore, including the sensational Wah Tham Seua (Tiger Cave). The view from the top of the mountain is just one of many reasons why we at The Co-operative Travel recommend Krabi as a honeymoon destination.
