When to go
The most popular period to visit for both holidays and honeymoons in Cancun is the dry period between November and April. Try to avoid Christmas and Easter if you can, as unless you plan to spend your entire honeymoon within the enclave of your hotel, the resort can be busy with American tourists.
The spring is a lovely time if you’re planning a wedding abroad, and is also when the sea is calmest – essential if you plan to go snorkelling or scuba diving. Between May and October is the rainy season, when prices are low but humidity high – though this mainly applies inland.
One thing you should be aware of is that late summer/early autumn is the hurricane season – and Cancun is on the Yucatan peninsula, where hurricanes do occasionally happen. Of course, there’s an easy way round this: book a honeymoon package at the most exclusive, luxuriously appointed hotel you can find, then if the weather takes a turn for the worst, curl up in your double hammock on the veranda, order room service and a treatment from the spa, and sit it out. What could be more perfect!
