Yalikavak holidays - Turkey
More ancient than modern
For a Turkey holiday that’s on a smaller, quieter scale than many others you’ll find on the northern shore of the buzzing Bodrum Peninsula, Yalikavak is the name to remember.
More ancient than modern, Yalikavak is a resort where the traditional Turkish way of life still holds sway, and holidays are more about the beach and getting away from it all rather than going out on the town night after night in the local clubs.
Still a working fishing village, tourists are beginning to discover package holidays and all-inclusive holidays in increasing numbers, and this has brought the beginnings of a bustling bar and restaurant culture, as well as other tourist trade trappings.
Those restaurants and bars continue to put the emphasis firmly on the native styles, while the fishing boats based here still land their daily catches which will be served up to you good and fresh. But if you can’t resist trying an authentic doner kebab, of course you can do that too.
experience the cultural delights of yalikavak
As you wander around Yalikavak you’ll come across some cunning ways in which old features of the town have been given a new lease of life. For example, a one-time olive oil press now houses a souvenir shop, while an old water cistern surely makes one of the most unusual art galleries you’re even likely to see!
Yalikavak’s long, sandy beach is just on the edge of the town, and is situated where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean in a confluence of warm, clear water.
Although a number of Yalikavak’s hotels will offer you evening entertainment including late-night discos, you should head south-east from Yalikavak to the maelstrom that is Bodrum for the real action.
