Isle Of Man Holidays

GENERAL

More and more families are discovering the delights of cheap holidays in the Isle of Man. An enigmatic jewel floating in the Irish Sea, all inclusive holidays here mean clean, uncrowded beaches, enchanting glens and hillsides, and a rich and vibrant history spanning thousands of years. With package holidays ranging from holiday parks and self-catering cottages to hotels, we at The Co-operative Travel can offer the ultimate Manx experience.

The Isle of Man theme park

If you think every holiday should include theme parks, then the Isle of Man is one big park of attractions. It may not have the rollercoasters, but there's certainly a Big Wheel - the Lady Isabella, built to pump water from the Great Laxey Mine, in 1854. The island's most famous tourist attraction, she is over 77 ft in diameter, and the largest surviving example of her kind in the world.

Another favourite is the miniature railway. The tiny train that once worked the Great Laxey Mine now carries passengers for enjoyment. Running through the longest tunnel on the island, it's a thrill for everyone. At the end there is a picnic area where visitors can enjoy an ice-cream. A more hair-raising experience is to take a ride on the Snaefell Mountain Railway, opened in 1895 and the oldest of its kind in the world. Kids will love the experience and adults will love the views.

If you've got a Thomas fan in the family, be sure to take him (or her) on the Isle of Man steam railway. The Reverend Awdry got his idea for the books after coming here in the 1940's. Running from Douglas to Port Erith, it passes through some stunning countryside, with lots of stop off points. The Groudle Glen railway offers equally scenic fun along the cliff top.

Cheap family holidays at the Seaside

Holidays at the capital of Douglas have a unique Victorian flavour. The broad sandy beach rings to the sound of horse-drawn trams, and there's also an 18 mile electric tram railway - the oldest in the world. The two Victorian pleasure parks have rides and amusements that are remarkably unchanged since they were opened, and there is also a fascinating Viking museum.

Port Erin offers package holidays with a traditional seaside flavour. Kids can eat ice-creams on the beach, paddle in the shallows or take a trip to the zoo or Manx cat sanctuary - while the golf course and local shops keep the adults amused.

Whether it is visiting ancient castles or riding antique trams, we at The Co-operative Travel have cheap holidays to the Isle of Man that will let you enjoy this fascinating island to the full.
