Package holidays in Sousse combine fabulous beaches with history and culture. The ancient old town has been left unscathed by tourism, while purpose-built complexes have sprung up along the coast, supplying unforgettable, but cheap holidays for all ages. We at The Co-operative Travel have holidays in Sousse that you’ll always remember for all the right reasons.
The relaxed, easy-going atmosphere in Sousse has made it a hit with UK families. Even the youngest of children will enjoy a trip to the ancient medina, where locals and visitors haggle over the bargains, and the scent of exotic spices hangs thick in the air.
Sousse is rich in ancient history, and with related films like Percy Jackson in recent years, there has never been a better time to get kids involved. A visit to the Sousse museum, to see the head of Medusa, is a must for young would-be Greek gods, and there is the largest collection of mosaics in the world at the Bardo museum, where everyone can learn this skill themselves. Elsewhere there are forts and catacombs to clamber round – though reverence is essential at the Great Mosque.
In Sousse, there is also the opportunity to go camel riding or pony trekking across the Sahara. Jeep safaris and visits to the Roman amphitheatre at El Jem (where kids and adults alike can play at being gladiators) are equally popular.
Sousse benefits from a supreme location on the Gulf of Hammamet. Here, a mild climate and acres of clean sand make it ideal for smaller children, while everyone has an enviable number of water sports to choose from. Fishing, scuba diving, waterskiing and windsurfing are all popular – with tuition available for first-timers.
All inclusive holidays generally include at least one boat trip. Sousse has a large modern marina where this can be arranged, and sailing tuition is also available. A lot of package holidays include access to your own private beach and if you fancy a walk there’s a pleasant promenade where you can stretch your legs while enjoying an ice-cream.
Most people book all inclusive holidays on a full or half-board basis, but there are some excellent restaurants in the town if you fancy trying the traditional cuisine. There are some lively bars too – though most entertainment takes place in the hotels. Family package holidays generally come with baby-sitting facilities, giving parents the chance to play the tables at the famous Sousse casino.
Whatever you decide to do, we at The Co-operative Travel have great package holidays that will make the most of every moment.
