Malta holidays offer an exhilarating fusion of the best in breathtaking natural beauty and superb Mediterranean climate. Although a suntan will inevitably be a by-product of a holiday to Malta there is also much to explore. Features such as the dazzling Blue Lagoon, charming fishing villages such as Marsaxlokk and historical sites dating back thousands of years all add to the allure of this gorgeous little isle.
Found almost plum in the middle of the Mediterranean, just over 50 miles south of Sicily the varied terrain and dazzling sunlight of Malta have made it a favoured outdoor location for filmmakers. Indeed, it was here that recent Hollywood epics such as Gladiator and Troy were shot. Its historic capital of Valletta was one of UNESCO’s original World Heritage sites and still retains many of its 16th century golden period buildings. It is a ‘must-see’ on any holidays to Malta and while the old town never fails to impress the newly refurbished Valletta Waterfront is also proving quite a draw.

Just outside the capital is the cosmopolitan resort of Sliema - an extremely popular choice for those on package holidays to Malta. The resort contains accommodation ranging from major chain hotels to delightful locally owned studios. Although the Mediterranean climate of Malta is ideal for a beach holiday the island is short on sand and the beach, Sliema consists entirely of rock. Farther up the coast at Mellieha Ghadria Bay is the island’s only major sandy beach which unsurprisingly is incredibly popular during summer.
Getting great value from Malta holiday deals also extend to the shopping – a visit to the Crafts Village at Ta’ Qali to see the glassblowers in action is a must! In addition to glassware other Maltese specialities such as silver and leather bargains are also to be had at the centre.
Gozo is the smaller sister island of Malta and is definitely worth a day-trip by ferry to see the remarkable Ggantija Prehistoric Temple, which is older than both Stonehenge and the Pyramids.
