Madeira's capital, Funchal plays host to some spectacular parks. Or if you have a head for heights... why not try the getting the Funchal Cable Car where you can get great views of the city from above in a gondola. You can visit the Monte Palace gardens and the church at Monte & there's another cable car which goes down to the Botanical Gardens meaning you can make a day of it! Funchal also has markets well worth a look, especially if you are on a self-catering holiday as you can get great local produce here!
This pretty village is situated in a perfect area for walkers who are keen to explore the countryside. High up in the hills with stunning views out to sea... It has cobbled streets, tiny local stores and a lovely selection of bars and restaurants. From Canico, a road snakes downhill to Canico da Baixo, known as one of the island's best scuba diving spots!
