Holidays to the Isles of Scilly
If you’re looking for sheer perfection, book package holidays in the Isles of Scilly. Here you’ll find a climate that, thanks to the unique geographical location, is always sunny, but rarely too hot. Most holidays are booked during the summer months however; cheap holidays are regularly booked out of season – particularly by bird-watchers, who flock to the islands for the rare migrants. The Scilly Isles are unique and beautiful, and we at The Co-operative Travel have some brilliant yet cheap holidays to the Isles of Scilly that you’ll remember forever.
The most westernmost point of Britain, the tiny archipelago of the Scillies is reached by ferry or fixed-wing plane (the Skybus); it’s the perfect start to the holiday.
Where to book holidays in Scilly
There are no sprawling complexes on the islands. Holidays to the isles of Scilly are booked in small to medium-sized hotels, often 18th or 19th century houses of extreme charm and character. There are a couple of more upmarket hotels, one of which has its own sailing school, as well as smaller bed and breakfast options.
St Mary’s is the largest of the islands and where most cheap family holidays are booked. From here, ferries run to the islands of Tresco, Brhyer and St Martins, which also offer plenty to see. Tresco, the only privately owned island, is where the famous Abbey Gardens are sited. Here, you can book holidays at the unforgettably named Hells Bay, so named because of the number of shipwrecks that happened here. Visit the Valhalla Museum and explore the figureheads and other relics that were recovered.
Cheap holidays in St Mary’s and St Martins
There are no theme parks on St Mary’s – but there are plenty of fast rides, courtesy of the jet boats offering high-speed trips round the island. For a more leisurely experience, you can take trips round the islands to watch the seals and puffins, engage in a spot of fishing, or learn how to pilot a dinghy at the sailing school.
Visit St Martins and you have the benefit of long, sandy beaches that are perfect for sandcastles and paddling. The island also has the UK’s most southerly vineyard with plenty of shops and cafes to get an ice-cream for younger folk.
