Bali Holidays

GENERAL

Idyllic, relaxing, palm-fringed beaches

A destination with something to appeal to all ages, Bali is a magical island which can be seen to its best advantage on a holiday from The Co-operative Travel.

Idyllic, relaxing, palm-fringed beaches abound on a Bali holiday, and the warm, clear water of the Indian Ocean is great for swimming or snorkelling. Kuta Beach is a magnet for surfers from all over the world, and hence its waterfront houses Bali's more lively bars and nightclubs. As the island's finest beach, it also makes a great spot for watching the romantic sunset.

If you want to explore the island's interior on your Bali holiday, take a Jeep safari into the dense, green forests. Nature walks and horse rides are also available if you want to take things a little more slowly.

The markets at Kuta and Sanur will provide you with rich pickings for unusual gifts and local handicrafts, but it is at the bohemian resort of Ubud where you can find the best of Bali's holiday souvenirs with stone and woodcarvings, silks, and batik paintings. Ubud also boasts the pick of the island's museums where Bali's history and culture can be traced through the art on display.

The Bali Barat National Park features some of the indigenous wildlife of the island including monkeys, snakes and lizards. Bali even has its own volcano to admire in the form of the immense Mount Agung.

Bali has been a Hindu island since the 14th century and has some beautiful shrines and temples to visit, including Besakih, the country's biggest temple.

Bali is a well-established honeymoon holiday destination, thanks to its mix of beauty, friendliness and fun nightlife.
