Malia Holidays

Parties and Palaces

If it's a party you are after, this is your town! The hip young things all hang out in this bustling resort in Crete where the streets are lined with bars, tourist shops and fast food outlets. For cheap accommodation, heaps of facilities on your doorstep and plenty of fun you don't need to venture much further than Malia.

Modern day Malia has become one of the most popular tourist locations of Crete, and one of the most popular in Europe. A holiday in Malia rivals those in Ibiza and Magaluf due to its big name DJs. The Main Strip has more bars, clubs, taverns and restaurants than you can shake a stick at and if you somehow managed to miss it... Malia was also the setting for 2011 British comedy film The Inbetweeners Movie!

Malia has a sandy beach on which to sleep the days away after late nights or, if you are feeling spritelier, head to the Minoan palace of Malia and see some culture.

Minoan Palace of Malia

The palace of Malia, dating from the Middle Bronze Age, was destroyed by an earthquake during the Late Bronze Age, but was later rebuilt. The Minoan palace of Malia was discovered in 1915 by Hadzidakis, a Greek archaeologist and was surrounded by a Minoan town which has only recently been uncovered. The Minoan town ruins lie three km east of the site so pack your walking shoes if you are keen to explore!

Old Town

The picturesque old town, with its winding narrow streets, olive groves, stone houses and traditional tavernas lies just over the coastal road. If you want to sample old Cretan life head here and grab lunch somewhere quiet... a great break from the strip! Also a great place if you are looking for a family holiday in Malia, it is close enough to the activities but far away enough for you to get some sleep!

Other attractions

As with any party town, bars and clubs are the main attraction but should you be up to much in the daytime you could head to the shops, play crazy golf, give go-karting a go, hire a moped to explore or head to the beach and try your hand at the variety of watersports from scuba diving to pedalo's.

Food wise, if you aren't a fan of the high street fast food joints or a faux full English breakfast, nip into one of the local tavernas for flavourful Cretan Cuisine... you won't be disappointed!
