Hersonissos Holidays

Discover the latest cheap Hersonissos package holiday or Hersonissos all-inclusive holiday deals with The Co-operative Travel.

Hersonissos is a great choice for those who enjoy a traditional beach holiday, with plenty of sport and fun thrown in.

There is also plenty to see for those interested in Greek history and traditions. The Heraklion Archaeological museum is a short drive away, while the Minoan palaces of Knossos and Malia are also easily reached by a regular bus service.

The beauty of exploring Crete is that you can see these ancient sites, and the less tourist-oriented villages such as Ano or Old Hersonissos while still being close to the island's beaches.

These beaches offer great watersports facilities, while in the shops in Hersonissos itself, you will find every holiday souvenir you could wish for.

Hersonissos - Crete

Venturing up into the hills, to Krasi Krasi and the Lassithi Plateau, you will find plenty of holiday photo opportunities, not least of the latter's windmills, and Diktaion Antron, the cave where Zeus, the Greek king of the gods, ruler of Mount Olympus and the god of the sky and thunder, was born.

But modern Hersonissos is better known for its nightlife than its godly heritage. The bars and clubs are jumping well into the small hours, making it a magnet for younger visitors.

This means that the earlier part of the day is ideal for exploring some of the other surrounding villages, with breakfast at a café in Koutouloufari something to savour at leisure while the night owls are still catching up on their sleep.

Hersonissos makes a great base for a cheap Crete holiday. Hiring a car is a good idea, as this will open up the area's less commercial and more unspoilt areas, of which there are many waiting to be discovered.

The weather in Hersonissos is a little cooler than holiday hotspots further south on Crete, but this is of course a bonus if you plan to soak up the island's history and culture.

So take off to Hersonissos with The Co-operative Travel, and experience the majesty of ancient Greece alongside all the buzz of a modern holiday resort.
