Cheap holidays in Crete
Crete is ideal for cheap family holidays. The largest of the Greek islands, it is also the most southerly, benefiting from mild, dry weather. If you are booking package holidays in the summer holidays, Crete is one of the better destinations to head for, owing to the cooling effect of the “meltemi” breeze.
With family-friendly hotels, golden beaches, ancient history and sports activities to enjoy, Crete is the perfect destination for everyone, whether you are travelling as a group, couple or alone. We at The Co-operative Travel have all inclusive holidays to a number of resorts in Crete, all year round.
When to book package holidays to Crete
Flights from the UK get you to Crete in around 4 hours, with July and August being premium months. Temperatures range from 22 – 35oC, with a longer summer season than most of the Greek islands. You can book cheap family holidays as late as October and still get a tan.
A popular time to take package holidays in Crete is at Easter. Then, temperatures are balmy and you can enjoy the Greek Easter celebrations, or wander through the acres of wild flowers cascading over the hillsides. During the summer, sea breezes keep the worst of the sun at bay, though it can still be very hot. In July, there’s a wine festival at Rethymnon, with street parades, live music and dancing.

Chania Old Town
When it comes to all inclusive holidays, Chania is a popular choice. Crete’s second largest town, with a beautiful old Venetian harbour, it has some of the best beaches on the island. The architecture of the Old Town reflects hundreds of years of occupation, and there is a fascinating market for those booking holidays on a self-catering basis.
Chania is renowned for its live bouzouki bars and choice of restaurants. It has a number of family-friendly beaches, and the resorts of Agia Marina, Kissamos and Platanias are within easy reach.
Agia Pelagia and Agios Nikolaos
Agia Pelagia lies in a beautiful sheltered bay, backed by rolling landscape of foothills which are at their best in spring. Perfect for all ages, it boasts water sports, safe swimming and plenty of sight seeing opportunities – the ancient relics of the capital, Heraklion, are nearby.
Agios Nikolaos is an attractive harbour town in eastern Crete, overlooking the lovely Mirabello Bay and Lake Voulismeni. The town has some fantastic beaches and a fascinating archaeological museum inland.
Crete offers cheap family holidays with a bit of everything – beaches, watersports, history and nightlife. We at The Co-Operative Travel have all inclusive holidays and other package holidays there to suit every budget.
