Things to do in Cancun

Cancun is a magnet for sun worshippers, and with more than 150 hotels to choose from, there are plenty of cheap family holidays available throughout the year. These are mainly located in the popular Hotel Zone, a 25 kilometre-long peninsula shaped like a “7”, divided between ocean and lagoon.
 
Families typically book all inclusive holidays in the resorts at the horizontal end of the strip, where the surf is gentler and the beaches are sheltered by the nearby island of Isla Mujeres. Package holidays come with a host of things to do. There are shopping malls, theme parks and numerous activities that include swimming with dolphins, boat excursions and jet skiing in the Nichupté Lagoon.

Cancun has an ancient history, and is famous for its Mayan temple ruins. The gateway to the Maya Riviera, visitors can take excursions to archaeological sites like Cobá and Tulum, or explore El Rey, in the Hotel Zone itself.  Cheap family holidays invariably include a theme park or three, and at Xcaret you can explore yet more Mayan ruins before enjoying the thrills of the Eco theme Park. At night, the kids are cared for while the older family members enjoy the bars and nightclubs around the Party Zone area of the Lagoon. If you fancy a break from hotel cuisine, this is also where the best restaurants are.
