Rose to prominence on the majorcan holiday map
Choose C’an Picafort for your Majorca holiday with The Co-operative Travel
The effects of the transformation which has swept through towns across Majorca as a result of the explosion in its tourism industry are perfectly encapsulated in the resort of C’an Picafort.
The municipality of Santa Margalida has the largest concentration of archaeological sites on the entire island of Majorca. There are more than 150 officially recognised sites, most of which date from pre-Roman times, the most important of these being the Son Real Necropolis, or ‘Cemetery of the Phoenicians’.
C'an Picafort’s rise to prominence on the Majorca holiday map has followed a similar path to many other well-known resorts. In the 1960s it was a small fishing village with fewer than 200 inhabitants. The fishing village is now all but gone, but a small harbour remains from where several pleasure boat trips embark each day.
The resort has a wide traffic-free promenade, which is lined with restaurants and bars running from the marina and fishing harbour, to the more modern Son Baulo area of the town, which is a mile and a quarter away to the east. Son Baulo is also home to the resort’s best beach, along with a small protected nature reserve.
Other than the numerous bars and restaurants, the resort’s leisure development has been restrained. With the notable exception of the two nightclubs in the town, evening entertainment is generally hotel-based.
At The Co-operative Travel, we can help you find your ideal C’an Picafort package holiday or late deal holiday, and open up the whole of Majorca for your enjoyment.
