Package holidays in Barbados

If you’re looking for cheap family holidays in the Caribbean, then Barbados is the ideal place to come. Under colonial rule until 1966, the island’s predominately English feel makes it ideal for those booking all inclusive holidays in the Caribbean for the first time. We at Co-operative Travel have cheap package holidays to several family-friendly resorts including Christchurch, St Peters and Bridgetown.

Why is Barbados good for families?

With Queen Elizabeth II still the official head of state, there’s a unique “Britishness”, which appeals to families of all ages. English is spoken everywhere, and families who have booked cheap holidays on a budget should know the tap water here is very pure – and free.

The island cuisine will suit most palates. Try the weekend “Fish Fry” at Oistins in Christ Church, where flying fish and rum punch are accompanied by live music and dancing.

The island has something for all ages. Grandparents can sit under shady palms to watch the cricket; dads can play golf; teens can go scuba diving, and mums can enjoy shopping in Bridgetown.  Saint Lawrence Gap, at Christ Church, has lively bars and nightclubs for whilst children are safely supervised at the hotels.

When to take package holidays in Barbados

The majority of cheap family holidays are taken in the dry season months of December to May. Outside of this time, temperatures are more humid and breezy.

July and August are the most humid months, but if you remember the insect repellent you can enjoy the Crop Over Festival, a five-week celebration that includes a special parade for children.

Cheap family holidays with plenty to do

Younger families prefer the calm waters and sandy beaches of the south and west, while surfers crowd to the rugged Atlantic coast. Wherever you stay, you can’t avoid the sea-life. The flying fish is the emblem of the island. Try a game fishing trip from Bridgetown, or a submarine ride from the same resort.

Barbados has a large turtle population. Snorkelling, kayaking, glass-bottom boat trips and guided turtle walks are just some of the ways to see them. Folkestone Marine Park, Animal Flower Cave and Harrison’s cave are all unforgettable, while Morgan Lewis Windmill and Mount Gay Distilleries are popular with grown-ups.

One of the best resorts for family package holidays is St Peter. Here, all inclusive holidays include excursions to the Barbados Wildlife Reserve and Farley Hill National Park. A mahogany forest with Georgian ruins, this is the site of numerous arts events, including the Barbados Jazz Festival.

We at Co-operative Travel guarantee our cheap holidays to Barbados will have yo and the family clamouring to return – again and again.
