Book an august beach holiday
Low cost flights have made so many more destinations accessible to UK holiday makers over recent years and you may well have trouble deciding exactly where you want to spend your time off this year.
If you normally spend all day behind a desk, then how about stretching your legs and booking an all-inclusive holiday or package holiday to Lake Como in the Lombardy region of Italy. It’s not hard to see why Como is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, with wooded hills stretching down to the azure water, just waiting to be explored.
The lively town of Como has a good choice of restaurants, bars, museums and churches - plenty to keep you entertained when you get back from a day’s hiking in the hills around the lake. Live dangerously and test your balance with some waterskiing, or take a dip in the fresh water. It’s little wonder the natural beauty of Lake Como attracts cyclists, walkers and swimmers from across the world year after year.
However if all that sounds a little too adventurous, then you might prefer to spend a few weeks relaxing on a warm beach with the sand between your toes, doing nothing more strenuous than reaching for the next cocktail.
enjoy the sunshine in the canary islands
If that sound more your speed, then consider a holiday to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Positioned in the Atlantic Ocean, close to the coast of Africa, Fuerteventura has a permanently warm climate and is said to enjoy 3,000 hours of sunshine every year.
Sandy beaches and picturesque bays make the island a haven for sun worshippers, while more active types are attracted by the winds which make the waters off Fuerteventura perfect for sports such as windsurfing.
Staying with the Canary Islands, another option is Gran Canaria. With long beaches, mountainous terrain and lush vegetation all to be found on one island, it is not surprising Gran Canaria is often described as a miniature continent. Its beauty attracts in the region of 2.2 million visitors every year, and there really is something for everyone.
Join the crowds in the island’s capital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or relax and soak up the culture and enjoy the timeless atmosphere in Aguimes’ old town quarter. Pull on some flippers and enjoy some world class scuba diving or spread your towel on the beach near Playa del Ingles. Whatever your ideal holiday is, you’ll have the time of your life in the Canary Islands.
