Snow arrives in the Alps
Snow has finally arrived across the snow resorts of Europe, as a warm start to the winter had delayed the beginning of the ski season.
Resorts at Val d’Isere, Solaise and Le Fornet in the Alps have all reported fresh snow, with as much as 30cm falling across France. Weather forecasts predict more snow is to come, which means the season looks well and truly under way.
Slopes in Swiss resorts of Andermatt and Arosa both opened for the first time last weekend, with Davos, Zermatt and Samnaun all receiving fresh snow.
Austria's slopes also received similar good news; Obergurgl has opened 15 out of 24 ski lifts after 10cm of snow fell.
Jonny Cassidy of the British Ski Club's Freshtracks commented from Val d’ Isere: "I was not expecting to see so many smiling faces after the first day skiing. The atmosphere in resort is electric as everyone is excited about the start of winter."
Germany, Belgium and Scotland are all yet to open their resorts, but with wintery weather on the horizon, they could be open for business in no time at all.
