Ski resorts in Slovenia 'benefit from revamp'

Brits planning to hit the slopes in Slovenia this winter are likely to see a range of major improvements, it has been reported.

According to etravel.org, a number of the country's ski resorts have been upgraded for the 2009/10 season, with many boasting new facilities and offering better access to slopes and ski areas.

"A new ski piste linking Slovenia's Kanin ski resort with the Italian resort of Sella Nevea will open officially on December 23rd 2009, creating the first international ski area in the region," the news provider noted.

In addition, a new gondola lift is set to open at Maribor Pohorje later this week, enabling skiers to reach the summit of the mountain within six minutes.

Meanwhile, a snowpark has been unveiled in the Cerkno resort, with a children's play area recently opening in Kranjska Gora.

According to flight search site Skyscanner, searches for winter flights to eastern European destinations such as Slovenia and Bulgaria are up by 154 per cent compared to last year.
