It's never too late to go on the piste

It's never too late to hit the slopes and learn to snowboard, says Daily Telegraph travel writer Sue Attwood.

At 58, she says that she was the oldest person her instructor in the Swiss ski resort of Abelboden has ever taught, but that didn't put her off.

Her first day on the piste, was spent learning how to stand on the board and while moving around on a flat surface, before a guided and small assent down the hill.

She admitted to falling quite a lot on day two, but said that once she'd stopped thinking about toppling over and started listening to her instructor, things got a lot easier.

And on day three she cracked, finally zig-zagging down the slope like a snowboard veteran.

"Once you get the hang of the lift though, and crack the first few hard days of lessons so you don’t fall so much, I imagine it’s a doddle… yes, even at 58," she wrote.

St Moritz in Switzerland was voted as the best European ski resort in the recent British Travel Awards.
