Turkey sweeps the board at World Travel Awards

Brits thinking of heading abroad to enjoy the last of the summer sun could think about booking late deal holidays to Turkey, after the country walked away with numerous prizes at the World Travel Awards.

The Europe section of the annual WTAs took place at the Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa in Antalya in the country on Friday (2nd September) and the hosts won in several categories.

The Concorde De Luxe was chosen as Europe's Leading All-Inclusive Resort, Izmir was voted as Europe's Leading Cruise Destination and the Mardan Palace Antalya Royal Suite took the Presidential Suite prize.

Graham Cooke, president and founder of the WTAs, said: "Antalya in particular represents brand Turkey at its finest. Its winning mix of heritage, sun-kissed beaches, state-of-the-art facilities and superb value has propelled it into the league of one of the world's great destination cities."

Conde Nast Traveller recently reassured UK consumers that it is not too late to set off on a summer holiday and recommended Turkey's Lycian coast as one of a number of destinations that are ideal for a late-season break.
