Turkey is a 'year-round destination'

Holidays to Turkey are likely to remain in demand even after the summer is over.

This is according to Irfan Onal, director of the UK Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, who suggested that it is a year-round destination.

He noted that hotspots such as Aegean and Mediterranean coasts such as Bodrum, Marmaris, Oludeniz, Antalya and Dalaman look set to be popular sought-after over the coming months.

"The lesser-known destinations such as the Black Sea coast are increasingly attracting the curious while Cappadocia is as popular as ever," Mr Onal commented.

He added that Istanbul is also proving increasingly popular, particularly with people stopping off during cruises.

According to the Turkish Directorate General of State Airports Authority, the country's airports welcomed 44.6 million people during the first half of 2010, representing a 24 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2009.

Airports in hotspots such as Dalaman and Bodrum saw a 19 per cent rise in traveller numbers.
