Turkey holiday market 'going from strength to strength'

Holidays in Turkey are continuing to prove a highly popular option among travellers from Britain, a spokesman for the country has revealed.

Tolga Tuyluoglu, UK and Ireland director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, said that the nation has "gone from strength to strength" in the UK market.

Over the past five years, it has been one of the fastest-growing destinations in terms of visitation from the UK.

"In 2010, Turkey welcomed over 28.6 million worldwide visitors, which was an increase of 5.74 per cent on the previous year," said Mr Tuyluoglu.

"Of these visitors, 2,673,605 came from the UK, an increase of over ten per cent on the previous year."

Monarch Airlines recently announced that it would be launching new flights to the Turkish holiday resort of Bodrum from Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham airports this summer to meet demand from consumers.

The country is home to many other popular destinations, such as Antalya, Dalaman and Istanbul.ADNFCR-2580-ID-800459899-ADNFCR
