Turkey and Egypt 'will be popular in 2010'

Holiday destinations such as Turkey and Egypt are expected to grow in popularity next year because they offer value for money.

Kate Kenward, executive director at the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said that these destinations can provide cheap holidays for people looking to travel just outside the eurozone.

She also suggested that a drop in the number of people holidaying in Europe next year could be good news for those who prefer to avoid the crowds during their trips abroad.

"Short and mid-haul destinations outside the eurozone, such as Turkey and Egypt, will prove popular due to the great value they offer," Ms Kenward commented.

"If the numbers are less, touring major cities and attractions [in Europe] which have been known to be busy in the past will be a joy," she added.

Last month, the holiday trends report published by Thomson and First Choice revealed that 80 per cent of British people plan to enjoy a least one vacation in 2010.

In addition, 23 per cent said that they are hoping to book a longer flight for the same price as one closer to home.
