Take precautions 'to avoid holiday disaster'

Before heading away on holiday this year, to Turkey and other destinations, taking a few simple steps first can help to ensure that you are well protected against any unforeseen circumstances.

With problems hitting areas like Costa Rice and Peru, as well as closer to home with the recent floods in Madeira, being organised can help in the long run, CNN.com has stated.

Looking to an expert for advice, Dan McGinnity, vice president of travel insurance firm Travel Guard, stated that something as simple as having the contact numbers of your travel agent, travel insurance provider and even friends and relatives can be helpful if something happens.

In addition to this he advises making a back-up plan when you travel so there is always another option to get you back home safely when getting back to your hotel or even back home.

Planning your holiday outfits in advance can also help to minimise the amount you need to pack and will stop you from packing things you will not wear, according to travel expert Jasmine Harman.
