Holidays to Turkey 'popular with Irish travellers'
Holidays to Turkey are proving popular with Irish families this summer, it has been revealed.
Pat Dawson, president of the Irish Travel Agents Association, told the Sunday Business Post that the country is attracting holidaymakers due to the low cost of packages.
He noted that demand is also high for
flights to Morocco.
However, Mr Dawson pointed out that travellers are leaving it until the last minute to book their
holidays to Turkey and elsewhere.
"The only advance bookings now are for cruises, and the average lead-in time to booking a
holiday is seven to 14 days," he commented.
Mr Dawson suggested that advance bookings are low due to the uncertainty caused by the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland.
Another destination where travellers are likely to get more bang for their buck this year is Greece.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Fred Mawer said the cost of food and drink has dropped by around 20 per cent in the last 12 months.
