Holidays in Turkey 'proving popular'

Holidays in Turkey are set to prove popular this year, it has been revealed.

Figures from Skyscanner show that that flight searches for Turkey are around 159 per cent higher than Greece.

"Greece has had a lot of bad press recently and unfortunately it's coming at a time when many people are booking their summer holidays," said the website's co-founder and business development director Barry Smith.

According to Skyscanner, news of strikes and unrest there has damaged the country's image.

However, it noted that Turkey has received a great deal of positive publicity this year, with Istanbul acting as the European capital of culture for 2010.

A recent study by Travelsupermarket.com revealed that 46 per cent of Brits consider themselves to be savvy shoppers when it comes to holidays.

Furthermore, three quarters of people are planning to take a break over the coming year, the poll revealed.
