Spain revealed as top destination for Brits
Short haul
holidays were found to be the most popular choice for Brits in 2011, with Spain being revealed as the most popular destination.
The figures, produced by HomeAway.co.uk, show that more Brits than ever opted to fly close by or stay in the UK for their
summer holidays. Nine out of ten holiday destinations for summer 2011 were either in the UK, or within a three hour
flight distance.
Malaga Province ranked as the most popular Spanish destination in terms of the number of booking enquiries for breaks in Q3 2011. The ‘sunny coast’ city is swamped in history, and its rich cultural surroundings are a clear indication of why it is a popular tourist spot. Malaga also offers consistently warm weather and ample beach space.
Majorca was a close second, appealing to those looking for a low-priced beach holiday in the sun. The island has proved to be a prevalent last-minute destination, with ample beaches available to the last gasp escapees.
Ibiza retained its long term attractiveness, offering an ‘intoxicating blend of stunning natural beauty and exciting man-made attractions’. The trendy bars, clubs and restaurants sit among some of Spain’s most beautiful scenery, making the island an irresistible retreat for the British.
