Spain 'is top country for conceiving'

Couples hoping to become a parent in the near future may wish to consider booking a cheap package holiday in Spain.

Research carried out by travel provider Tenerife.co.uk revealed that 36 per cent of couples who conceived abroad did so in destinations such as Majorca, Malaga and Tenerife.

"It was slightly surprising that only around one in five actually planned to get pregnant whilst on their vacation," said website founder Chris Brown.

Other top destinations were couples have conceived include Italy, the Dominican Republic, France and Egypt.

Of those polled, 12 per cent said the warm weather helps to get them in the mood for romance, while eight per cent said they would like to become pregnant while abroad in order to name the child after their holiday resort or city.

Meanwhile, a recent poll carried out by Hotels.com revealed that British holidaymakers are the thriftiest in Europe when it comes to spending on accommodation.
