Spain 'is top choice for Valentine's Day'

Spain may not sound like a typical Valentine's destination. However, it seems that an increasing number of Brits are heading there on romantic breaks.

Figures released this week by TravelRepublic.co.uk show that the Spanish resort of Benidorm is proving more popular than Paris for breaks over Valentine's weekend.

Holidays to the Costa Blanca hotspot are also outselling trips to Rome and Venice, the company revealed.

The firm's managing director Paul Furner commented: "We're totally gobsmacked by the fact that Benidorm has come out on top as the destination of choice for the Valentine's weekend this year."

Other places that are also set to be inundated with couples next month include New York, Torremolinos and Amsterdam.

Writing recently for the Telegraph, Annie Bennett claimed that Spain still has plenty to offer holidaymakers and suggested that Brits are likely to find some good deals on offer this year.
