Pamplona bull run 'popular with people on holidays to Spain'

The annual Pamplona bull run is a popular event with those taking holidays to Spain, it has been claimed.

According to Lonely Planet editor Tom Hall, it is a hit with younger travellers especially.

"There are loads of antipodean travellers that go there every year as part of their circuit, as it's a bit of a rite of passage to go to Pamplona to either have a good old party or actually take part in the runs," he commented.

Although it is a popular event, accommodation in Pamplona is almost impossible to come across, so holidaymakers will need to stay in one of the nearby towns.

Mr Hall recommends the city of San Sebastian, which is home to a stunning town beach and a "spectacular restaurant scene".

Figures released by the Spanish Industry, Tourism and Trade Ministry earlier this month revealed that the number of people visiting the country rose by 1.1 per cent in May, despite the disruption caused by the volcanic ash cloud.
