Monarch Airlines names Spain as top selling destination
The popularity of Spain among Brits as a destination for all-inclusive holidays and other breaks has been highlighted by Monarch Airlines, which has revealed how it topped sales in a recent promotion.
According to the leisure airline, the Spanish destinations of Almeria, Ibiza and Fuerteventura saw the biggest sales increases, with year-on-year reservations jumping by 1,100 per cent, 361 per cent and 233 per cent respectively.
British holidaymakers taking
cheap flights to Spain are still attracted to Mallorca and Tenerife, which remain the most popular destinations, while Cyprus has also increased in popularity thanks to a 165 per cent year-on-year jump.
Monarch group spokesman Hugh Morgan said: "Bookings for Spain and the Spanish islands were strong in summer 2010, so the increased demand that we are seeing this year is phenomenal and proof that the Brits' love affair with all things Spanish continues."
Earlier this month the airline announced that "phenomenal demand" from customers has prompted it to offer more
flights to Spain, Portugal and Cyprus from April.
