Majorca 'has more to offer than sun and sea'

The sun-soaked island of Majorca may be famed for its glorious beaches and fun water parks. However, holidaymakers will also find plenty of interesting cultural attractions to explore, it has been claimed.

According to the South Wales Echo, the city of Palma is well worth a visit, with its "diverse legacy of historical architecture" and famous gothic cathedral.

"A short walk through the winding streets behind the cathedral leads to the Banys Arabs, a 10th century Moorish bathhouse and one of the few remaining pieces of Muslim architecture," the news provider notes.

When it comes to dining, the newspaper states that there is something to suit everyone, with highlights including La Boveda, which serves up authentic Spanish tapas at a reasonable price, and the upmarket Celler Sa Premsa, which offers traditional Majorcan cuisine.

The recently published American Express Global Foreign Exchange Services Currency Index revealed that holidays are still a top priority for Brits, despite the economic townturn.
