European destinations 'are best for self-catering'

British families planning to book cheap holidays this year have been advised that European destinations are best in terms of self-catering.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert from travelsupermarket.com, noted that self-catering breaks can provide good value for money, depending on people's requirements.

"You'll find that it's the Spanish, Portuguese and Greek resorts where a self-catering option becomes a good idea. [This is] because of the sheer range of places to eat out and things to do," he commented.

Mr Atkinson noted that holidaymakers travelling to destinations such as Egypt are likely to find that all-inclusive breaks are the best option for them, as there are few restaurants and bars to choose from.

A recent poll carried out by the website revealed that 18 per cent of Britons are planning to enjoy a self-catering holiday this year.

Furthermore, 13 per cent of those polled said they intend to book an all-inclusive package.
