Discover the stunning countryside of the Costa Brava

A holiday in Spain may not seem like an obvious option for people looking to escape and stay in peaceful surroundings. However, according to one travel expert, there are unspoilt areas of outstanding natural beauty on the Costa Brava.

Writing for nowfly.co.uk, former chief travel correspondent for the Sunday Times David Wickers said that although this area was one of the first places in the Mediterranean to embrace mass tourism, "the rugged shoreline in the north of the region, where the coast road takes a turn inland, presents a very different story".

"High-rise hotels sink to their knees and fishing villages, craggy coves and fragrant bushy headlands dipping into the sparkling azure sea take over," he commented.

For holidaymakers keen to soak up some culture, Mr Wickers recommends a visit to the resort of Llafranc.

Writing recently for the Daily Telegraph, Annie Bennett said British travellers are likely to find some excellent deals on holidays to Spain this year.
