Britain floods back to PIIGS

Recent research has shown that the PIIGS (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain) will be the most popular destinations for British holidaymakers in 2012, with more than one in ten Brits planning to return to Spain.

As a result of uncertainty for the future of the Eurozone, travellers have experienced excellent holiday deals on flights and packaged holidays in the popular Euro-destinations. Most Brits opted for either domestic holidays or short-haul destinations, with the Middle East and further afield destinations showing dwindling popularity.

Spain received 13 per cent more travellers compared to 2010, with three percent of Brits planning to return to Italy and two per cent to Portugal, a recent Opinium research poll has revealed.

Speaking to the Mail Online, travel expert Bob Atkinson comments: "In tough economic times, Brits often return to known quantities, so this will drive an interest in these destinations. Once Brits see the great offers available, they'll be flocking to these ever-popular countries."ADNFCR-2580-ID-801234672-ADNFCR
