Bilbao Turismo recommends Spain during Holy Week
Tourists who choose to take a
cheap holiday to Spain, more specifically Bilbao, during Holy Week will be able to enjoy processions in the street and works of art by renowned sculptors, according to the Bilbao Turismo.
A spokeswoman for the organisation said that people come to see the Engineer's Regata, a rowing competition involving students at the university.
She said: "One of the events that generates ... expectation is the celebration of the Engineer's Regata, Domingo de Ramos ... a totally amateur university rowing competition that is held along the estuary."
The spokeswoman also noted that holidaymakers will be able to enjoy exhibitions of some of Spain's "most important cultural and artistic treasures".
Holy Week, known by Spaniards as Semana Santa, take place between April 15th and 24th and has been a cause for celebration in Bilbao since the middle of the 16th century.
Tourists coming to Bilbao on
holiday at other times of the year can visit the Holy Week Processions Museum to see the floats from the event.
