Holidays to Greece 'more appealing than ever'

Brits planning holidays to Greece this summer have been promised that they will not be left out-of-pocket by industrial action taking place in the country.

Speaking earlier this week, Greek culture and tourism minister Pavlos Geroulanos said the government will cover any accommodation costs visitors incur if they are unable to travel as a result of disruption caused by strikes or natural disasters, such as the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Andrew Warner, a spokesman for travel provider Expedia, said holidays to Greece are still in demand.

"Greece is always popular with British tourists with its mix of wonderful beaches, beautiful islands and ancient culture and we have seen no drop in bookings to the country since its economic situation deteriorated," he commented.

However, Mr Warner said this offer is likely to make the country even more appealing for British travellers.

It will be interesting to see if other destinations follow suit, he added.
