Holidays to Greece: Which island should you choose?

Explorers who would like to go on cheap package holidays to Greece first have to make up their mind about which island to visit.

Lonely Planet's Chris Deliso recommended that people wanting a relaxing beach break could find what they are looking for on almost any of the hundreds of Greek isles, but they should stop off at Skiathos, Mykonos, Kefallonia, Lipsi or Crete for the best beaches.

Frangokastello Beach in southern Crete, for example, boasts its own Venetian castle, while holidaymakers could fall in love with the golden sands of the 1,200m Koukounaries Beach on Skiathos.

The travel writer noted that culture vultures on holidays to Greece might like to check out the old town of Rhodes, which has history galore in the form of ancient architecture and the 14th-century Palace of the Grand Masters.

Walking fans may also find that Naxos, Alonnisos and Skopelos has plenty to keep them active for a week's holiday or longer.
