Holidays in Greece 'are ideal for British families'

The Greek Islands are an ideal choice for Brits and have something to offer everyone, it has been suggested.

Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the UK and Ireland office at the Greek National Tourism Organisation, said the country boasts an excellent range of accommodation, with everything from luxury five-star hotels to self-catering units.

"You can find exactly what you want, beautiful landscapes, beautiful hotels, beautiful scenery, very hospitable people and at the same time, very good prices," she commented.

Some of the most popular destinations for Brits booking cheap holidays to Greece include Corfu, Rhodes and Crete, according to Ms Panayiotaki.

The island of Skopelos, where the hit film Mamma Mia! was filmed, has also proved popular over the last year, she added.

Lonely Planet editor Tom Hall recently advised Guardian readers that October is the ideal time to head for Greece, as the weather is still warm and the summer crowds have died down.
