Holidaymakers advised to research currency deals
Families preparing to take
holidays to Greece and elsewhere over the coming months have been advised to shop around for good currency deals.
Research carried out by Moneysupermarket.com revealed that travellers can save almost £100 by doing their homework before purchasing euros.
The study found that a holidaymaker taking out €1,000 with a Nationwide Debit card would be charged £831.12. However, someone buying this amount from an airport bureau de change could expect to pay approximately £928.12.
Travel expert Bob Atkinson said people should not be tempted to wait until the last minute and change their money in the departure lounge.
"Looking at the differences between using a prepaid card, buying online or at the airport it is clear that there are savings to be made," he commented.
A recent poll by Travelzoo found that 60 per cent of people spend more time searching for good
holiday deals now than they did in 2008.
