Head to Rhodes 'for a luxury holiday'

Brits hoping to take a luxury holiday to Greece this year may wish to consider heading to the island of Rhodes.

Peter Giakoumis, a spokesman for the Rhodes Tourist Board, said it has worked hard to shun its "party destination" image in recent years.

He noted that the island combines old with new and has something to offer holidaymakers of all ages and tastes.

"The old town of Rhodes, for example, is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe, but there are also really modern hotels, bars and restaurants in some of the main beach resorts such as Lindos," Mr Giakoumis commented.

He added that the best way to get around is on foot, particularly in the older areas, where there are dozens of narrow, winding streets to explore.

A recent poll carried out by Thomson revealed that many people are shunning staycations in favour of overseas breaks in the sun this year.
