Enjoy 'tremendous variety' on a Greek islands holiday

Travellers planning to do some island-hopping during cheap holidays to Greece this year can seek out some of the diverse experiences on offer in some of the country's most famous travel hotspots.

According to Chris Deliso, author of the Lonely Planet guides to Greece and the Greek islands, the region offers "tremendous variety in a relatively small area".

He highlighted several attractions and activities that are available, in addition to the good weather, beaches and nightlife that continue to attract foreign holidaymakers year after year.

"The Greek isles have basically anything you want: from windsurfing to wineries, from superb archaeological ruins to ultra-chic boutique hotels, from rustic country fare to gourmet dining and from traditional Greek music to trance parties - they've got it all," said Mr Deliso.

"The time-honoured practice of ferry-hopping between islands is also an integral part of the experience for visitors."

People who choose Greece as their summer holiday destination this year can visit islands such as Crete, which the Lonely Planet writer recommended for its traditional villages, beaches, mountains and archaeological sites.

Other popular locations include Rhodes and Santorini.
