Walt Disney World named as top theme park on the planet

The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida has been named as the world’s best theme park at the Globe Travel Awards 2012.

The self-styled ‘land where dreams come true’ beat off strong competition from the likes of Universal Studios and Busch Gardens to take the prestigious gong at a glitzy ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel in London last week.

Alton Towers took the award for the best theme park in the UK.

Royal Caribbean International, one of Co-operative Travel’s recommended operators, was voted as the best mainstream cruise company, while Celebrity Cruises was named as the best premium brand.

In the UK, the Hilton chain was named as the best hotel provider while Manchester was names as the best airport.

The awards were organised by Travel Weekly magazine and awards were based on votes from its readership.

At the World Travel Awards ceremony in Qatar, Jamaica was voted as the best destination for a honeymoon.
