Head to Egypt 'for a luxury holiday'

Egypt has become increasingly popular with Brits looking for cheap holidays and a way to escape the expensive eurozone.

However, the country also has a great deal to offer travellers who prefer to stay in luxury surroundings.

This is according to Khaled Ramy, director of the Egyptian State Tourist Office, who said there are many high-end places to choose from, even in Sharm El Sheikh, which is often considered as a mainstream destination.

"In the area of El Gouna we have destinations like Sahl Hasheesh with spa facilities, golfing. We have Makadi Bay, we have Soma Bay, all of them on the Red Sea," he commented.

Holidaymakers can also soak up some culture by taking a luxury cruise along the Nile, Mr Ramy added,

Research published earlier this week by Wanderlust and the Association of Independent Tour Operators revealed that 83 per cent of people intend to take at least the same number of trips this year as they did in 2009.
