1 million Brits visited Egypt last year
Despite a period of political unrest in the early part of last year, Egypt remains a popular
summer holiday destination for British travellers.
The Egypt Tourism Authority has announced figures this month which show that more than one million people from the UK visited the North African nation during 2011.
According the figures, only Russians visit the nation more than Brits but that could change as its political climate settles and more people become confident about jetting off to see historical sites such as the Valley of the Kings.
The outcome of summer’s presidential elections will not have an impact on the tourist trade, it has been claimed.
All the major Muslim candidates have been keen to stress the importance of travel to the North African nation amidst fears that religious changes to the way the country is governed could have a negative impact on its ability to draw visitors.
Both the Freedom and Justice Party and the Al-Nur are both said to be committed to exploring ways to improve tourism.
