Proper insurance 'essential for watersports holidays'
Britons planning watersports
holidays in Egypt and other destinations have been reminded of the need to get adequate insurance before embarking on their trip.
Essential Travel launched a campaign highlighting the issue following research which found that 40 per cent of holidaymakers have taken part in aquatic pursuits abroad without knowing if they were sufficiently insured.
More than half (56 per cent) of people have spontaneously tried watersports while on holiday without preparing for such activities in advance, according to the survey.
Stuart Bensusan of Essential Travel said that travellers often "throw caution to the wind" during overseas trips, when they should actually be at their most vigilant.
Lynda St Cooke from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised: "Check the small print of your travel insurance policy to be sure that it covers all watersports activities.
"It's all too easy to make a spur of the moment decision to hop on a jet-ski or hire a boat for the day and realise too late that you're not covered."
All inclusive holidays in Egypt are a popular option for watersports fans, with the Red Sea offering plenty of opportunities for snorkelling, scuba diving, jet skiing and other activities.
